You'll notice a few tweaks to the design for the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4, but the biggest changes for this model year are for the powertrain and the infotainment system. A new rear motor, paired with a few mechanical refinements, significantly increases both the horsepower and torque on the 2024 ID.4, resulting in faster acceleration and more sure footing on the road. Meanwhile, the infotainment system has been redesigned, including with simpler and more user-friendly controls, as well as a more powerful system and smarter AI. The cumulative changes result in an  ID.4  that is more forward-facing, with of-the-moment technology both under the hood and inside the cabin.

2024 Volkswagen ID.4 Interior

The interior of the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 has a sleek and modern design. You won't find much cluttering the console or dash other than the simple infotainment display, which houses most of the controls. Accents like chrome trim or top-stitching are discrete and thoughtfully placed. Ambient lighting adds to the sophisticated vibe inside the ID.4.

The cabin is spacious, giving all passengers plenty of head and leg room. Taller passengers will find it easier to get in or out of the ID.4, thanks to its higher ride height. The seating is ergonomically designed, and heated front seats are standard, ensuring exceptional comfort. The Volkswagen ID.4 has one of the cleanest grilles we've seen on an SUV. It has a simple chrome on black accent bar connecting the slim headlights, with the Volkswagen logo resting in the center. There is the air intake running under the grille, but it is tucked under and slightly behind a body-colored panel, helping to minimize its appearance. You see more of the natural beauty of the SUV, rather than all its features. You'll see a similar treatment at the rear, where a subtle black outline runs around the taillights and then connects them. 

Performance and Powertrain

A lot of people avoid electric cars because they think that the vehicles won't be powerful. They may worry about sluggish performance on rough roads or slow times to accelerate. But as technology advances, it is quite clear that many electric vehicles not only defy those expectations but often perform just as well as, if not better than, some of their gas-fueled counterparts.

The 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 is powered by a single motor and a 58.0-kWh battery puts out 201 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque. Models equipped with all-wheel drive come with a dual motor and a larger, 77.0-kWh battery, and they get even more power: 282 horsepower and 402 lb-ft of torque. The new rear motor on the 2024 model has a bigger heat sink, an upgraded oil- and water-cooling system, and a stator with larger, square-section wires. All of these mechanical tweaks allow it to provide more power.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 a five-star overall safety rating, thanks to its great performance on crash testing. The ID.4's exceptional design is backed by a host of driver-assistance features that help to mitigate risk on the road. Some standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane keep assistance, and adaptive cruise control. 

Infotainment and Connectivity

The infotainment system on the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 has been upgraded for ease of use and improved functionality. The system is displayed on a 12.0-inch screen that is easy to see and access, and its touch controls are responsive and accurate. A slightly larger 12.9-inch touchscreen is available as an upgrade. Built-in voice controls have been improved on the 2024 model for greater accuracy. You can use them for everything from entering an address into the navigation system (which is standard) to adjusting the temperature on the AC.

 Apple CarPla and Android Auto are both standard, and there are multiple USB ports for charging and streaming devices. The interface has been simplified so that fewer inputs are required for certain features and controls can be found more easily. You can also customize your menu to find what you use the most quickly.

Fuel Economy and MPG

Range is a big concern for those considering an electric vehicle. You know you'll save money on gas, but you also don't want to be limited in your travel by frequent stops. The 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 can go anywhere from 209 to 291 miles on a full charge, depending on how you drive and the road conditions. However, numerous road tests from various agencies have shown the ID.4 to perform better than these estimates.

Get even more features on the ID.4 S, the second-highest trim level available for the model. The ID.4 S gets 20-inch alloy wheels, premium LED projector headlights, an illuminated front and rear logo, a panoramic fixed glass roof with an electric sunshade, and a hands-free easy open and close power liftgate. Interior upgrades include perforated V-tex leatherette seating surfaces and 12-way power-adjustable front seats with massage lumbar and position memory. The MSRP on the Volkswagen ID.4 S is $44,855.

Pro S

The Pro S is the top trim level for the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4, and it offers the best of all features available on the model, creating a luxury experience.
